“ A Day At The Beach ” reflects one of many happy memories I
spent with my children at Robert Moses State Park.  Fortunately,
my parents moved from Brooklyn to West Islip, and I grew up
minutes from the beach.  Long Island has always been my home
and I continue to share my love for the beach with my children,
and granddaughter every chance I can.

Illustrators Day, A CBIG Event

Special thanks to Donna Miskend for organizing a successful Illustrator's Day Event.  On Sunday, November 6th- CBIG friends shared an assignment in a open group critique. It's always fun to see how other artists illustrate the same idea in a fresh creative way and hear about their process. This year's guests who critiqued the group were Patty Ann Harris, Creative Director at Scholastic Inc. and Jenny Kelly, Assistant Art Director for Dial Books for Young Readers. Their positive comments and professional insight were a plus.

One of the assignments was to illustrate a double page spread from the recently published book by Dial, Hoot and Peep. It's about two owls, an older brother Hoot and younger sister Peep.

New Promotional Page

CBIG 2016 Color Directory Page

Writing and illustrating a book is a labor of love.  It goes without saying, many changes in the text and drawings have to be made before a book is completed. I'm still in the drawing stages. But I have also been working on a few color illustrations, to get a better feel for my characters in their setting.
Bellow is a sample illustration from, my children's book.

NJSCBWI Annual Conference:

I had a great time at the conference June 4-5, and met new and old friends. Attended many workshops, participated in a one on one review, portfolio display and juried art show. The art directors, editors, designers, literary agents, generously shared their knowledge and positive comments!  The faculty and staff made this event a great success. The artwork was amazing! and WOW!!! Totally enjoyed hearing the guest speakers, David Wiesner and Suzy Ismail.

The Juried Art Show theme was to illustrate,
"I will arise and go now," words from William Butler Yeats poem.

BEAUTY AND THE BEAST

Why did you choose this fairy tale, character or scene to illustrate? I chose to illustrate a tender love scene of Beauty embracing the fallen beast, because  Beauty’s compassion for birds and animals also resonates within my heart.

Holiday Feelings

On November 16, I attended the CBIG annual portfolio review in NYC. I had the pleasure of meeting and showing my portfolio to Christine Kettner, Art Director from Houghton Miffin Harcourt and Beth Terrill, Editor from North South. The reviews were positive and the event was a wonderful experience.
I am moving forward on my story and following up on suggestions...

This year, I enjoyed Thanksgiving with my daughter and her fiance's family in Florida. Dinner was delicious! We always watch the Macy's Day parade and the National Dog show.  In case you haven't heard... This year, Nathan the bloodhound won! My personal favorite,YEAH!

Challenges: Drawings

2014, A year of challenges ahead

February
Not wanting to loose momentum, I am presently undertaking the kidlitart on-line picture book dummy challenge. Thank you Diandra Mae and friends. For more info: http://www.kidlitart.blogspot.com/

January,
Start the Year off Write 2014, for more info visit Shannon's blog, http://www.shannonabercrombie.com
It was fantastic! I completed my first on-line challenge this year, 21 days of writing prompts to jump start your creativity. The guest authors and ilustrators shared their inspiration, and the prompts were fun, insightful and very helpful in sparking one's imagination. I was also able to use some of my ideas from PiBoIdMo, an on-line picture book idea challenge, offered in November 2013. For more info, visit the author who started this up, http://taralazar.com/ Great exercises, and I will definetly do this again in November.

I am working on my shop, with art for sale. And also, a separate section devoted to Portraits and Exhibits. It is my intention to work hard and make it happen.
I will continue to post news, upcoming events, and new work on my blog.
